OCCUPATION : BOUNDARY

Art, Architecture, and Culture at the Water

“The book examines the transformative power of design with an emphasis on how art and architecture activate the public realm, featuring historical and contemporary images of architecture at the boundary between the city and the sea.”

CATHY SIMON, FAIA, is an architect whose practice has spanned five decades and is concerned with the revitalization and resiliency of the post-industrial waterfront. Her award-winning work includes design for higher and secondary education, civic and commercial buildings, the renovation of historic structures, and urban design schemes for post-industrial waterfront sites in and around SanFrancisco. Cathy’s work is guided by an attitude that art enlivens and informs the design of architecture and that architecture must serve the public realm.
